Who pays the estate agent?
Posted on 14th July 2021
The estate agent is almost always paid by the seller.
Buyers are required to pay for various other activities such as their solicitor fees, valuation fees, conveyancing, and Land Registry Searches.
You will have noticed I said ‘almost always’. That’s because some estate agents can charge but it’s very rare.
If however, the buyer decides to go down the auction route then it’s likely that they will pay part of the fee.
On average the seller can expect to pay the company conducting the auction between 8% and 25% of the final selling price. Buyers will pay around 10% as well.
Remember, it’s always worth checking with the estate agent for clarification on fees.
The prices mentioned in this article are relevant to the Leicestershire region as of June 2021.
